Daewoong Pharm. Co. Launched the Medicine for Dyslipidemia ‘Lipilfen’

- Largely effective to the symptoms in cardiovascular diseases such as stroke

- Targeted domestic market for the dyslipidemia treatment in size of 450 million dollars starting from November


Daewoong Pharm. Co., Ltd. (CEO Jong Wook Lee) is releasing the treatment for dyslipidemia ‘Ripilpen’ on November 1st. Dyslipidemia is the state of excessive fat such as cholesterol and triglycerides (TG) built in the blood causing various symptoms that may trigger high blood pressure, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases.
Recently, triglycerides draw much attention in the treatment of dyslipidemia because they can become the risk factors in cardiovascular diseases. According to the National Health Statistics of 2009 by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, dyslipidemia in Korea needs to be under the intensified care for the level of HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol) hypoglyceridemia and hyperglyceridemia tends to be higher when compared with the West. 
‘Ripilfen’ excellently reduces the amount of triglycerides while increases the level of HDL-C. According to several guidelines, it has been especially recommended to use the combined therapy of Statin and Fibrate in patients with high triglycerides and low HDL-C.

Yoon Sung Jin, the assistant manager of Daewoong Pharm. Co. said, “Since high triglycerides levels influence HDL-C, LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol), and others, which can cause cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, and stroke, it is necessary to not only control the level of LDC-C but also manage the patient’s risk factors more systematically. It is expected that Lipilfen benefits providing a more specialized treatment to dyslipidemia patients with high risk of complications by their individual risk factors.”

In addition, the combination treatment of statin and phenofibrate was found more effective in improving lipid levels than the single treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes showing dyslipidemia with high triglycerides and low HDL-C. Lipilfen which was developed by the French company Ethypharm utilized the micronized technology to improve bioavailability increasing the absorption and solubility. Currently, the domestic market for dyslipidemia treatment is valued nearly 450 million dollars displaying the high annual growth of 16%.
