EGF Shows High Cure Rates for Diabetic Foot Ulcers EGF more than doubles the chance to cure diabetic foot ulcers.
In the International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot, a Korean professor made a presentation on Easyef, a novel bioengineered drug developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical (Representative Director: Lee Jong-ok) for the first time in Korea. He said that it increases the chance to cure diabetic foot ulcers and shortens the cure time effectively. In the fifth International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot held in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands from July 9 to 12, Professor Kim Jae-young at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery of the Eulji Medical Center in Seoul made a presentation under the title of the Efficacy and Safety of Recombinant Human Epidermal Growth Factor (Rh-EGF) in the Treatment of Chronic Naturopathic Diabetic Foot Ulcer. In particular, the average time needed to heal a 1 cm2 size wound was 5.21+1.48 weeks in the EGF group and 8.34+1.96 in the untreated group, respectively. The EGF group showed more rapid wound healing ability than the untreated group. Meanwhile, a research team led by Professor Hong Jun-pyo at the Department of Plastic Surgery of the Asan Medical Center in Seoul published a paper about the efficacy of EGF in the Annals of Plastic Surgery, an international journal registered in SCI, in April last year. The paper says that 72% of patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers were completely cured by applying EGF liquid (diabetic foot ulcer treatment medicine) and dressing materials. They are also conducting research on EGF’s efficacy in the treatment of various wounds such as radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis. |
